Ok I give…

April 29, 2008

I would like to give you all a taste of what my work day is like. In the company(ies) that I work for I handle various projects; however, my main “job” is the tax programs for all 6 or 7 companies. Yes, you can wince at that. Apparently they thought I enjoyed dealing with the IRS so much I should handle completely different branches of the taxes tree.
Well that’s part of my everyday normal…boring…tasks. And as I have stated in a blog or two before, I am the front line for the claims department. If you call one of our companies, you are going to talk to me. Joyful, I know. Contain yourselves for one moment while I share my latest stupid person of the day call.

Me: Claims department, this is Kim how can I assist you?
Caller: Hello?
Me: Claims department, how can I help you sir?
Caller: Is this the claims department?
Me: Uhm..yes sir, what can I help you with?
Caller: So is this the place I call for claims?
Me: (beginning to hit my head on my desk) yes sir. WHAT can I HELP you with?
Caller: Well OBVIOUSLY I need to file a claim, what about that can you not understand?
Me: (gritting teeth) Sir, are you certian the claim has not already been set up?
Caller: How am I supposed to know that?
Me: What is the policy number?
Caller: I don’t know.
Me: Ok…what is the name of the business?
Caller: I don’t know.
Me: Sir. How am I supposed to help you without any information?
Caller: Can’t you look it up by the address?
Me: No. Only by Policy Number, Claim Number, Claimant Name, or your Name. Do you have one of those?
Caller: I wouldn’t have a claim number yet!! I haven’t turned it in.
Me: (silently mouthing WHY?! to the sky) I understand that, have you contacted your agent yet?
Caller: Why would I contact the agent? I am the agent!
Me: Are you kidding me?
Caller: No. I’m with Mr. SO and SO Company
Me: And you mean to tell me you haven’t a single bit of information regarding OUR insured?
Caller: Uh I have a policy number…?

As you can expect, it got uglier from there. I do NOT get paid enough.

Also, I’m counting down the days until I am going to the beach! I took the entire week off even though I’ll only be at the beach for 3 days. Hopefully I will not come back burnt to a crisp. :-)

Yesterday (apparently) Hilary Clinton decided to come to our extremely small town. Much to the chagrin of many here. (Hi, we’re in the south guys) But she didn’t tell anyone until Oh I don’t know SUNDAY NIGHT. So suddenly after the news everyone was freaking out. Shutting down roads and what not. For all of you who read this blog that think someday you’ll be doing this…how about giving some small town folks a little bit more of a warning. I barely got off of my road before they started shutting down everything. Insane. Absolutely insane.

Hope you all have a great day!

Much Love,
K

  1. Oh my, that would have me beating my head against a wall for sure…

  2. I’m so glad I don’t deal with people like that on the daily. :)

And Graham has a Hillary office. That’s why she stopped by. I think I’m going to swing by there this afternoon to get a button or something. I’ve always wondered where people get their support signs and buttons and I think it would be really cool to see that side of things :)

  3. Oh wow, I’m always surprised at the number of stupid people who make it through life and live to be senior citizens without killing themselves along the way.

Sometimes I’ll have to answer a customer service call if it pertains to my area of expertise, and then I think, we’re not paying our customer service representative enough.

  4. How can you not love your job?!?! Gah Kim. I don’t see what the big deal is….. ;) Hang in there ;)

  5. Gee, that sounds so familiar… fun clients FTW. >_< These are the days that we beat our head against a wall and repeat “I love my job… I love my job… I love my job…”

  6. I agree with the comment above - how do these people LAST? I always think about how the heck they could still go on, tripping their way through situation after situation.
